little one

2008-2009 school year 024

I see you curled there
in the space that is mine –
the space so big and you so small.

Your hair is wild
with the day's play.
The tea party's over but you're still gowned

in the mint green
frock you say is your favorite,
the taffeta and silk skirting surrounds.

I see you curled here
in these arms that are mine –
the space so big and you so small.

Your eyes are startled
but you see it is me –
sleep-drowsy smile plays across your lips,

your eyes drift off
to the dreams you just left,
your body nuzzles deeper in the warmth of my chest.

I see you curled there
in the bed that is yours –
the space so big and you so small.

Your hands tucked
familiarly under your cheek
tiny toes crossed atop the pink sheets.

You draw up your knees
and whisper I love you
as you fade once again into the shush of sleep.

I feel you curled here
in this heart that is mine-
the space so big and you so small.

Thanks for these posts that remind me why I’m doing all this. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. You always assure me it is.
(Done with my Journey Through Moxie, by the way. I need more – so get to writing!)
