"Let's eat lunch outside today," I said as I used an entire loaf of bread to make an assortment of sandwiches – peanut butter and jelly (Jordan, Kaelyn), ham & cheese/no Whip (TJ), turkey & cheese/Whip (me, Kyra, Jaiden).

"Like a pick-i-nick?" Kaelyn asked.

They all froze. Deer, headlights, and all that jazz.

"Mmmhmm. You guys go get a couple of blankets and spread them out in the backyard."

They cheered, then scattered.

It's such a simple thing, but little kids eat that shit up like it's the coolest thing ever. I know this to be true, because through a sticky mouthful of PB & J Jordan turned to me and exclaimed, "This is the coolest thing EVER!"

Rainbows 037

Jaiden kept making this weird orangutan/dog/sheep sound and crazy-haired Kyra couldn't stop snorting when she laughed.

Diego and Spunky prowled: You better watch those sammiches, bitches.

And try as we might, we couldn't get just one perfect picture where everyone was both smiling and looking at the camera at the same time.

But these were pretty funny, and are more reflective of the daily madness and mayhem in the house of the Smart Ones:

(notice Frank's socks and sandals, Nancy. Only around the house.)

Today pretty much rocked. It was the coolest thing ever.

There's so much love and laughter in each picture! Sounds like you guys had a great time!

  6. Nancy on November 16, 2008 at 11:12 pm

I'm all smiles just thinking about the picnic days. I should have a picnic tomorrow, as it's my "work from home" day and always hard on the girls to have so little of my attention. Maybe I'll take a real "lunch hour" and do that same thing. They'll fucking love it – you are right!

The pictures definitely show how it truly did "rock" today!

Ha! As I wrote the comment, I must have missed the note about the socks and sandals and now I'm cracking up. But more so because ~I~ wear socks/sandals around the house too – as I usually have socks on in the house and when I go outside – I slip those exact type of sandals on – my ADIDAS slip ons. heh. It's like you "caught" me by showing this picture!
