Sock It to Me

Today while I should have been paying attention poetry project presentations (if I hear one more kid pronounce "hyperbole" as hyper-BOLE instead of hy-PER-bo-lee my head just might explode, ha!), but instead my mind just kept getting sidetracked. You see, all I could think about was this blog and all the people and support who are just a few clicks away.

I am in bloggy love with you. There. I said it. You have my heart and I think about you all the time.

There are several times a day when I think to myself, "I am soooo blogging this." No matter how hard and cold this path sometimes is, there is this part of me that always feels the love that emanates from this here 'puter, sent through cyberspace from you to me. I carry you with me each and every day and I am strengthened by you.

So, here's how my free-association-I-should-be-paying-100%-attention-to-the-projects-but-I'm-not-because-I'm-in-bloggy-love-like-a-sappy-little-teenager-thought process went:

Ohmigosh! Kate just donated 900 units of Follistim! Do not let these students see you start tearing up. —–> Gee, I love my bloggy friends. ——> They give me the warm and fuzzies, just like a cozy pair of socks. ——> Just like those crazy socks I bought for Chance and me for our transfer ——> I wish I could send a pair of crazy socks to all my bloggy friends so that they could feel the love, too——-> LIGHT BULB!

It's The Great Sock-It-to-Me Exchange. The warmth you feel from your bloggy support is a warm and fuzzy pair of snuggly socks (metaphor!). Take the support with you for a trip to the stirrups. Wear them when you're chasing around your battle-won little person. Put them on when you have something to celebrate or when you need a hug. Wear them as a physical reminder of all the people inside your computer who you know care for and are thinking of you.

Here's what to do:

The sign-up deadline has been extended to Sunday, March 8! Sign up now! Please email me at kyrajaATyahooDOTcom to sign up because I've been having some trouble with my regular email link. All buddies will be matched up by 11:59pm March 8.

  1. Sign up runs from now until Friday, March 6. Email me (the link is under my pic up there on the right) with your snail-mail address, blog title, and blog address by then to participate.
  2. I'll will send you the information for your "sock buddy" by Monday, March 9.
  3. You have until Saturday, March 21 to send the socks to your sock buddy.
  4. The week of April 6 is Sock-It-to-Me Week. Post a picture of your socks (worn or not worn) with a link back to the blogger who sent them to you. The topic of your post should be about what the support of this community means to you and how it has helped and is helping you. It's a week for warm and fuzzies. Like ummm…the socks.
  5. When you post, come back here with a link to your post and I'll keep a running list of the entries.
  6. Optional – help promote the Sock-It-to-Me Exchange by posting about it now with a link to this post. Here's the code to a badge:

    I am so in!
Not only are you one of my favorite bloggers, but you are brilliant as well.
Sending you lots of bloggy love!

  2. Jess on February 25, 2009 at 9:03 am

Definitely in: What a great idea! (I’ll do the signup stuff tonight).

  3. Kristin on February 25, 2009 at 9:11 am

I am definitely in! I love this idea and since you came up with it, I MUST do it.

  4. Kristin on February 25, 2009 at 9:16 am

I’ve even already added the button. Hmmm…do I buy socks or do I find a wicked cool crocheted sock pattern?

  5. Moxie on February 25, 2009 at 9:19 am

If you take the time to make a “wicked cool” pair of socks, I am SOOOOO gonna make me YOUR sock buddy! HAHA!

  6. Moxie on February 25, 2009 at 9:20 am

Y’know, every time I visit your blog, I always think of MoJo JoJo from the PowderPuff Girls. It cracks me up.
    I’m glad you’re joining in!

  7. Moxie on February 25, 2009 at 9:20 am

Glad you’re along for the ride, Jess! 🙂

  8. Debbie on February 25, 2009 at 11:57 am

Okay, I’m in too, but I need to come back and follow the directions when I’m not at work–not b/c I’m not allowed–but b/c a deadline is looming and I just spent the last half hour reading Kate’s blog. WOW. Thanks for pointing it out Moxie! I love it. Plus, I’m so glad to find another DE recipient.
I wanted you to know I considered sending you the tiniest bit of Follistim that I have left, but it’s over a year old, so I don’t think it will help. But, as I’m at the beginning of this cycle and just staring with my Lupron, I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll have plenty left to send.
So glad to hear from your cheery self again!

  9. Betty on February 25, 2009 at 12:13 pm

    This is so great!
I participated in the Ornament exchange and had a blast. This will be even better!

  10. Moxie on February 25, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I got you added to the list, Betty! So glad that you’re joining in!

  11. Moxie on February 25, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Debbie – I’m stalking you, and I will nag if you don’t update at least a little through the cycle! 🙂

    Sock it to me,

    sock it to me,
    sock it to me,
    just a little bit…

  17. My Reality on February 25, 2009 at 7:44 pm

I was reading this post and thought ‘hey, we should do sock swap of somekind,’ and then I got further down and realized that is totally what you were planning. I guess great minds think alike.
I want to play. But I have no clue how to put a botton on my blog. Because I am blogging challenged.

  18. Cindy on February 25, 2009 at 8:56 pm

Awesome! I love it. And I’ll need some sock love for my upcoming May cycle! 🙂

  19. coffeegrl on February 26, 2009 at 1:50 am

I would totally do this! Except I’m halfway across the world from most folks and shipping costs like a jillion dollars. Maybe I’ll just pick out some fun new socks and IMAGINE they’re from all of you 🙂 And of course I’ll blog about it! I could use a little pick-me-up right about now. Younger SIL is once again pretty sure she’s pregnant…the old-fashioned “oh we did it once all by ourselves and it was nearly a mistake” kind of way. *sigh*

  20. Heather R. on February 26, 2009 at 7:46 am

    *Peeks over the backyard fence*
May I join in on the crazy sock exchange?
    Pretty Please?

  21. Jamie on February 26, 2009 at 3:39 pm

This sounds fun. I’d love to play! 🙂

  22. nancy on February 26, 2009 at 5:37 pm

Moxie, question .. I am a sock whore. Really. I think the reason I joined roller derby was so I could wear kick ass striped over the knee socks.
So I want to do this, but I don’t need support for the stirrups anymore (I’m heartbroken that I’m sterile now, even though I know I’m done.) so I don’t know how I can.
Do you have anyone who needs support but can’t affor the exchange? I can be their one-sided “partner”???

  23. Moxie on February 26, 2009 at 5:52 pm

This is open to everyone, Nancy! Notice it said, “Wear them when you’re chasing around your battle-won little ones,” too! Get your info to me, girlie!

  24. Cece on February 26, 2009 at 6:50 pm

    OMG! Sign me up!!!!!!

  25. Jo on February 26, 2009 at 11:43 pm

Did you know that I totally had to Google that? I had no idea. . .although perhaps I can harness his evil powers for good? Hilarious!

  26. cady on February 27, 2009 at 10:47 am

  27. Heather R. on February 27, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Did you get my email? People I have been emailing
haven’t been getting them so I wanted to check.

  28. Kelly on February 27, 2009 at 2:49 pm

I want to play … but I don’t have a blog. Any suggestions for how I can play? We’ve had 1 IVF and multiple IUIs … apparently, I’m old (funny, 38 doesn’t seem old …). Looks like we’re headed towards adoption …

  29. Danielle on February 28, 2009 at 7:15 pm

WOOOO sock it to me, bitches! That’s SO gonna be my blog title. I can’t say “sock it to me” without adding “bitches”. I blame the Indonesian blood runnin through my body. ALL my dad’s fault! Expect an email from me, my love ;o)

  30. Ellen on March 2, 2009 at 10:12 pm

Thanks for organizing this! I’m already so excited about my stirrup socks! And thanks for the comment 🙂

  41. Sock It to Me Sign-Up ~ Fall 2011 on July 25, 2011 at 1:38 am

[…] Here’s a short history of the  Sock It to Me Exchange, for those of you who aren’t in the know: In early 2009, I was gearing up for a second transfer with my now former intended parents Chance and Apollo. They needed the help of the infertility community in the form of IVF medications. Without the generous donations from our friends in the computer, that second transfer likely wouldn’t have been possible. I was thinking about the kindness shown to us and got the warm and fuzzies. That thought made me think of socks and the idea for SITM was sparked. I wrote this in the original SITM post: […]
