What up, party people?
It’s been a while since I’ve just talked to you. This time of year is always crazy. For a teacher, the couple of months before the big, bad STANDARDIZED TEST (which I secretly like to refer to as bastardized test) are always ramped up. Between that and the Minions starting up with spring sports again (soccer for Jordan and Jaiden; soccer and softball for Kyra; Kaelyn decided to be a diva and play the spectator role), it has been nutso.
Writing inspiration-wise, March was also a gaggy month for me. I realized about halfway through the month that if I wrote about most of the things that I did feel compelled to write about, it would have been one long sob story. I’m through with writing about my own surrogacy experiences from a sobby perspective. I cut some emotional ties through March, and now I’m working on putting all of the positives at the forefront of my mind.
The big, bad standardized test will be administered next week, and I can feel the (relative) freedom of summer slipping its way into my hands. With the classroom load lightened tremendously, I’ll have more time to dedicate to writing regularly in this wee blog of mine. And boy, do I have a crap ton of things to tell you. To get a jump on that, let’s get down with one of my notorious bullet lists of teasers to things I’ll write about in greater detail later:
- NEW WEBSITE: One thing that has kept me majorly busy over the past week has been building a new Website. The official site launch will be on Monday (April 15), but I’m giving you an early preview now (the better for you to help me pimp it out next week, my dear). It’s called Jump! 1,001+ Reasons to be Happy. I built it on a sub-domain of The Smartness, but it is not a replacement for this blog; I designed it as a completely separate site.I won’t explain the concept of Jump! here because I’ve explained it all there, and over there is where I want you go after you finish here. It’s still under construction, but nearly all of the good stuff is there and I have only minor tweaking left to do. Click around — the only page that isn’t finished yet is the Contact page (I think). Before the official launch on Monday, I’d really, really like to pre-populate the site with a lot of Jump! Shots. That’s where YOU come in.On the Jump! home page, you’ll see a section for “Jump! for a Cause.” One of this month’s causes is National Infertility Awareness Week. I’d like to feature several IF-related Jump! Shots through this month. You can also do this month’s Themed Jump! Shot, which is “Spring.” Of course, you can submit a Jump! Shot that has nothing whatsoever to do with either theme. All of the above will make more sense once you click over there and check it out. Start with the About page.
Feel free to comment over there! Also, please add Jump! to your various social media accounts. I have to work on personalizing the Jump! Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest pages over the next few days, but we can start building those communities now.
JUMP on over there and check it out —-> JUMP!
- Women are Worthy radio show appearance: last Saturday I was the featured guest on the news radio talk show Women are Worthy. The topic was infertility, and I’ve received great feedback. I’ll be on again this Saturday from 10-11 a.m. talking about surrogacy. Read this post to find out how you can tune in online and participate in the discussion.
- Kyra is a contestant in the Miss [insert her School Name here] pageant. As part of the pageant, the contestants are raising money for the school’s contribution to Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. Kyra has been selling pageant ads to area businesses and thus far has raised over $200 in sponsorships. To help with her fundraising efforts, she had the idea of hosting a raffle. One of her sponsors is the local Bath and Bodyworks (of course it helps that my sister works there). My sister purchased over $100 worth of products for a gift basket grand prize. In addition to buying an ad, the B&B manager has also donated two smaller gift baskets valued at $25 each for first and second prize drawings. I’m also pimping out small graphic design work (buttons/badges, headers, etc) to help Kyra’s fundraising efforts. I’ll have more information about that ready to post tomorrow. You’ll be able to purchase ad space (if you have a small biz like an Etsy shop, this could be handy), purchase some design work from me, and buy raffle tickets. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society!
- State of the Minions update: coming next week. In a nutshell: they’ve been busy being awesome.
How the heck have you been?
